Chucks Hockey Blog
Coaching is a tough gig!!
I would like to start by saying most coaches are there for the right reasons. Yes, a few are there for the power trip or to make sure there kids gets to play rep, but most are there for the right reasons.
Coaching is a tough gig. Balancing what right for the team and each player can be hard. Lots of players and parents have tunnel vision and dont see the reasons why things are done sometimes. Most coaches hate benching a kid, but sometimes its needed to correct behaviours or at older ages to motivate better play.
I never sit someone without a explaination why, sometimes coaching at high school level its a simple as you need to get better to compete, but at least they know why.
Take it easy on that coach, they have feelings too..
What makes a good hockey player??
First and foremost you must play this game because you love it and find it fun. Aftet that there are a few keys...
1 - Speed, all sports require speed and hockey evan more so. This is the fast game in the world and we can help you gain better speed.
2 - Puck skills, no matter what anyone says, this game is played with the puck on your stick at the most important times. The true players can play this game with a puck on there stick and eyes ahead to survey whats happening in the game. Passing is a huge puck skill focus as well.
3 - Heart, Hard work breeds success, we insist at all levels of classes that players work hard. The more advanced the level the more we expect from our players. Of course all of this is done with respect and not in a demeaning way. Hard work is taught here, a life lesson as well as a hockey lesson..
4 - Fun, we cant stress this enough, we love the game. We love to play it, We love to teach it. We make our lessons fun.. i hope you love it too..
